Advanced genebank management of genetic resources of European wild apple, Malus sylvestris, using genome-wide SNP array data

Abstract The Netherlands’ field genebank collection of European wild apple ( Malus sylvestris ), consisting 115 accessions, was studied in order to determine whether duplicates and mistakes had been introduced, develop a strategy optimize the planting design as seed orchard. We used 20K Infinium single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) array, developed M. domestica , for first time genotyping . could readily detect clonal copies unexpected duplicates. Thirty-two accessions (29%) showed close genetic relationship (parent-child, full-sib, or half-sib) another accession, which reflects small effective population size situ populations. Traces introgression from were only found 7 individuals. This indicates that pollination preferentially took place among trees. conclude can be considered mainly pure accessions. results imply it should managed one unit when production.
